Reporting to the Supervisor Field Operations, the Journeyman Power Line Technician is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system.

Requirements

A journeyman power line technician certificate is required.
A valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is required.
Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment; this includes leading by example in promoting and applying safe work practices.
Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal customers and team members; this includes good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team or independently as an individual contributor.
Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous projects and competing demands.
Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
Knowledge of basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.).

Nice To Haves

Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Work safely in accordance with safety practice regulations and procedures.
Maintain a safe worksite; this includes completing a hazard assessment and site work plan, correcting any unsafe conditions, reporting incidents, and supporting incident investigations.
Construct, maintain, repair, or troubleshoot the electric distribution system (both overhead and underground).
Perform live line work.
Draft switching plans and perform radial, system and substation switching.
Draft and obtain hold offs.
Perform distribution operations, distribution construction, distribution maintenance, patrols/repairs, and trouble restoration.
Construction Readiness – including but not limited to placing first calls, Pre-Planned Power Outages (PPOs), booking third party contractors, backhoe, hydrovac, unit contractors etc. and the completion of a construction readiness checklist, when required.
Distribution Operations – prioritizing and executing operations workload including but not limited to Service Investigation Orders (SIOs), trouble calls, pre route planning and escorting over dimensional loads.
Alternate Designate – Cable Fault Locating, Cable ID, Line Apparatus, System Switching, Very Low Frequency (VLF) Testing, Advanced Live Line, Construction.
Provide quick and courteous customer service for trouble calls or power interruptions.
Mentor apprentices and other team members.
Participation in a standby rotation is required.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
