About The Position

GAI Consultants is looking for an Engineering Manager 1 for our Glen Allen, VA or Pittsburgh, PA office. This role involves leading business development, managing projects in the Power Generation industry, and overseeing civil engineering tasks. The position requires a thorough understanding of current engineering principles and practices, the ability to resolve complex issues, and a commitment to staying informed about new developments. The manager will lead projects of moderate complexity or significant parts of larger projects, analyze complex problems, and address ethical dilemmas. Travel for public hearings and community meetings is expected (10%).

Requirements

  • Minimum 12+ years of experience
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states

Responsibilities

  • Leading business development initiatives
  • Managing projects within the Power Generation industry
  • Leading civil engineering tasks
  • Applying thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering
  • Applying expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions
  • Keeping informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommending new practices or changes in emphasis of projects
  • Leading projects of moderate complexity and scope or leading a major project
  • Analyzing complex problems across specialty areas
  • Analyzing ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action
  • Serving as the technical advisor for the practice in the application of advanced concepts and methods
  • Developing new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products
  • Analyzing sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective
  • Planning, scheduling, and coordinating the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or being responsible for an entire project
  • Analyzing project management plans for complex engineering projects
  • Understanding project delivery uncertainties and using risk management principles to address them
  • Reviewing operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures
  • Serving as the Project Manager for certain projects with prior approval from GAI's President up to $50,000 per year
  • Supervising a staff of engineers and technicians
  • Providing continued mentored experience to senior staff
  • Integrating professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fostering creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff
  • Applying principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications
  • Representing their area of specialty within the practice and liaising with related individuals and practices
  • Routinely interacting with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others
  • Integrating concepts of effective teamwork and leadership
