About The Position

We are currently looking to fill 2 positions for a Power Engineer to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for all aspects of the safe and cost-efficient operation of the high-pressure boiler turbine unit(s) and all associated auxiliary equipment. Key elements of this role include: As a Power Engineer: As a member of the Operations Team, you will be responsible for all aspects of the safe and cost-efficient operation of the high-pressure boiler turbine units, and all associated auxiliary equipment. You must be able to work effectively as a member of the Operations Team and be capable of functioning in a planned work environment. You will be required to participate in competency based training, regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province. You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives. It is the responsibility of the Power Engineer to ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to (area applicable to NERC requirements). Your primary residence must be located within 60 minutes of headquarters, and you may be required to respond to call-outs. This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Requirements

  • A 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience as a Power Engineer in a generating station or industry with similar processes are required.
  • Demonstrate acceptable color vision for operation of control monitoring equipment.
  • Proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.

Nice To Haves

  • If no qualified candidates apply, applicants who possess a 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate will be considered as Power Engineer Apprentices.
  • As a registered apprentice, you will be responsible to complete all papers and skills required to successfully obtain your 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate within a specific time frame.
