About The Position

Johnson Controls is hiring a Power Electronics Principal Engineer in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. The role leads the design, testing, and support of power electronics printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and their components, and designs variable speed drive (VSD) controls for chiller applications using MATLAB/Simulink. The engineer conducts prototype testing to confirm products operate according to design requirements.

Requirements

BSEE, BSCE, or a degree in a related field.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven, team-oriented environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Understanding of PCBA designs with embedded processors and/or FPGA.
Understanding of power electronics and motor control.
Understanding of system modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with layout tools such as Altium.
Familiarity with TI MCUs.

Responsibilities

Conduct system modeling, simulation, and verification using MATLAB/Simulink.
Conduct prototype testing on hardware-in-the-loop systems, variable speed drives, and chillers to verify control performance.
Support field-issue troubleshooting and improve control methods.
Maintain and lead electronic circuit designs using embedded processors and FPGA/CPLD.
Perform worst-case circuit analysis and apply reliability principles to ensure reliable operation within environmental specifications.
Assist internal customers in developing, testing, and supporting PCBA-related projects.
Independently conduct and apply cost analysis to feasibility studies for proposed designs or modifications to existing designs.
Understand and comply with quality policies, procedures, and instructions to support product quality and customer satisfaction.
