About The Position

Peraton is seeking a senior-level Power BI Data Architect to lead the architecture and technical design for migrating an existing SAP BusinessObjects reporting environment, backed by SAP HANA, to Microsoft Power BI. The role is part of Peraton’s Department of State Consular Systems Modernization Program for the Bureau of Diplomatic Technology and is located in Herndon, Virginia. The position requires expertise in data architecture, data modeling, analytics, and Power BI, with a focus on enterprise reporting architecture, semantic models, governance, and security. The architect will assess the existing BusinessObjects environment and develop a target-state Power BI solution. The role includes making migration and modernization decisions, designing reusable datasets and scalable semantic models, optimizing performance, and providing technical leadership to developers. The architect will collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to translate reporting needs into an optimized solution.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in STEM and 8 or more years of experience.
7 or more years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, data architecture, or related disciplines.
4 or more years of hands-on experience architecting and designing enterprise Microsoft Power BI solutions.
Advanced experience with Power BI semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query/M, and Power BI Service.
Demonstrated experience migrating or modernizing legacy enterprise BI or reporting platforms.
Ability to communicate architecture decisions and tradeoffs to technical teams and business stakeholders.
U.S. citizenship.
Must be able to obtain or have an active Secret or higher clearance; interim clearances are acceptable.
Ability to work onsite three days per week in Herndon, Virginia.

Nice To Haves

Experience with SAP BusinessObjects, including Web Intelligence (WebI), Universes, and enterprise reporting concepts.
Experience migrating SAP BusinessObjects reporting environments to Power BI.
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, or modern cloud data platforms.
Experience designing enterprise Power BI governance and Center of Excellence standards.
Microsoft Power BI or Fabric certifications.
Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical reporting environments.

Responsibilities

Review BusinessObjects reports, Universes, data sources, calculations, business rules, dependencies, and security requirements.
Develop the target-state architecture for migrating reporting and analytics capabilities to Microsoft Power BI.
Determine which existing reports should be migrated, consolidated, redesigned, or retired.
Design scalable Power BI semantic models and reusable enterprise datasets.
Develop dimensional data models, including appropriate fact and dimension structures.
Identify Power BI technical limitations, performance risks, architectural constraints, and migration issues, and recommend solutions or alternatives.
Determine where data transformations, calculations, and business logic should be placed across Synapse, Power BI semantic models, other applicable data layers, and ETL components.
Troubleshoot Power BI performance and optimize semantic models, queries, and reports.
Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineers, database teams, report developers, and application teams to translate reporting requirements into an optimized Power BI solution.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to Power BI developers implementing the architecture.
