Data Architect, BI Analytics Platform

Assured•,

About The Position

Assured is hiring a hands-on Data Architect to define the standards, patterns, and platform for turning raw data into trusted business analytics. The role designs and builds the BI analytics platform and establishes standards for schema design, lineage, security, personally identifiable information (PII) handling, and delivery service-level agreements (SLAs). The architect maintains platform quality through design reviews, automation, and oversight so analysts and business leaders can rely on and trace reported metrics. The position owns architecture across the platform’s layers, including data modeling, ingestion, transformation, orchestration, schema evolution, reliability, and access controls. It partners with analysts, BI developers, business leaders, engineers, Security, Legal, and Compliance to create durable data models, support audits and access reviews, and keep the platform coherent as it grows. The architect also sets engineering standards for version control, code review, CI/CD, automated tests, infrastructure as code, and data quality contracts, documents decisions and trade-offs, and mentors data and analytics engineers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or warehousing.
  • At least 3 years as the accountable architect.
  • Expert SQL skills and working fluency in Python.
  • Production experience running Snowflake or an equivalent platform at scale, including RBAC, masking and row access policies, object tagging, resource monitors, and cost management.
  • Expertise in dimensional (Kimball) and normalized data modeling, with the ability to determine when each approach fits.
  • Experience handling regulated and PII data, including classification, minimization, masking or tokenization, retention, and deletion in line with regulations such as CCPA, GDPR, or SOC 2.
  • Experience defining and meeting data SLAs, supported by monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
  • Strong engineering discipline with Git workflows, code review, CI/CD, automated testing, and environment promotion.
  • Ability to lead through influence, explain risks and alternatives, and build trust with engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to new tools and technologies and apply strong systems thinking.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with dbt, Terraform, and an orchestrator such as Airflow or Dagster.
  • Experience with Data Vault modeling.
  • Experience with data catalog tools such as Atlan, Alation, Collibra, or DataHub.

Responsibilities

  • Define the analytics platform architecture, modeling standards, naming conventions, and patterns used across teams.
  • Establish end-to-end, column-level data lineage and maintain a data catalog and business glossary.
  • Classify sensitive data and design PII protections, including tagging, masking, row access policies, least-privilege RBAC, and retention and deletion rules.
  • Define SLAs, SLOs, and freshness targets for data products, and design monitoring and alerting for reliability breaches.
  • Architect ingestion, transformation, and orchestration patterns that support idempotency, recoverability, cost awareness, backfills, late-arriving data, and failure handling.
  • Own schema design review, versioning, and change management to protect downstream reports as schemas evolve.
  • Approve architecture and schema changes through design review and maintain consistency across platform layers.
  • Translate reporting needs from analysts, BI developers, and business leaders into durable data models.
  • Work with Security, Legal, and Compliance on audits and access reviews.
  • Require version control, code review, CI/CD, automated tests, and infrastructure as code for changes, and enforce data quality contracts at layer boundaries.
  • Write architecture decision records and design documents that explain trade-offs and invite challenge.
  • Mentor data engineers and analytics engineers through design reviews, written guidance, and hands-on collaboration.
