Starting Pay : $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends. This position involves attending to and caring for up to 900 male birds, inspecting them for quality and fitness. Other duties may be assigned, including completing production paperwork or data entry into a computer-based tracking system. The jobsite is a biosecure environment requiring showering and changing clothing before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species and abide by Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly stoop/bend over to floor level and reach up to cages.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 30 pounds to move items such as feed buckets; tools, such as wheeled trash can, may be required to occasionally push/pull up to 300 pounds such as feed barrels.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift (concrete floor); sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

Responsibilities

  • Feeds, waters and weighs birds according to schedules
  • Cleans and disinfects waterers, changes and cleans nest pads, dusts nests, cleans walls and ceilings, maintains male cages in a clean state and performs other routine housekeeping duties
  • Performs simple math [addition, subtraction, multiplication and division] as part of recording information according to instructions and Cobb standards ie: bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality
  • Observes/grades/records male quality according to Cobb standard
  • Inspects poultry for diseases and removes weak, ill, and dead poultry from flock
  • Monitors feed, water, illumination, and ventilation systems
  • Properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy
  • Sanitation of breakroom and vehicles
