About The Position

The Postgres Database Engineer will architect Dell’s global PostgreSQL platform strategy and build autonomous tooling to enable self-healing database operations across thousands of instances. The role works with global database engineering pods to define Kubernetes-native deployment standards, mentor database engineers, and represent Postgres platform requirements in executive planning and vendor negotiations.

The position covers PostgreSQL platform architecture, including high availability, disaster recovery, security hardening, and performance baselines. It also involves designing and implementing PostgreSQL on Kubernetes at scale, building LLM-augmented automation, authoring infrastructure-as-code modules, and mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 10–14 years of IT infrastructure or platform engineering experience, or 7+ years with exceptional depth demonstrated through production scale, open-source contributions, or published work.
• 6+ years of production PostgreSQL experience at scale, including partitioning, logical replication, connection pooling (PgBouncer), WAL tuning, Patroni, and pgBackRest.
• 3+ years of Kubernetes experience for stateful workloads, including operators, persistent storage design, backup and restore in Kubernetes, and multi-cluster patterns.
• 3+ years building automation frameworks in Python, Go, or Bash, including authoring infrastructure rather than only using playbooks.
• A proven track record of designing and developing Database as a Service.

Nice To Haves

• Production experience with pgVector and high-dimension embedding workloads such as RAG or semantic search.
• Agentic coding or LLM-augmented operations experience, such as self-healing scripts, natural-language-to-query interfaces, or autonomous remediation.
• Contributions to PostgreSQL ecosystem open-source projects, including patches, extensions, operators, or tooling.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead PostgreSQL platform strategy across Dell’s global fleet, including high-availability design, disaster recovery, security hardening, and performance baselines for thousands of instances.
• Design and implement PostgreSQL on Kubernetes at scale using operators such as CloudNativePG or Patroni, storage architecture, multi-region failover, and observability integration.
• Build agentic and autonomous tooling for self-healing failover, automated VACUUM/analyze scheduling, and predictive capacity alerts using LLM-augmented logic.
• Author Infrastructure-as-Code modules using Ansible.
• Mentor engineers through weekly architecture reviews.
• Represent Postgres requirements in planning and vendor negotiations.
