Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in construction inspection, including one year in a supervisory capacity
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent certification of formal training
  • Completion of a training program in construction inspection sanctioned by the using agency may be substituted for high school graduation
  • An Associate Degree in an engineering or closely related technology may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities
  • Possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Able to perform essential job functions
  • Submission of criminal history reports (conditional offer of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction on standards, policies, and requirements to permit customers and departmental staff
  • Work with maintenance units to determine which roads require reduced weight limits
  • Review Highway Occupancy Permits, local determination requests, and submissions related to roadway performance
  • Prepare, review, and monitor heavy hauling agreements and ensure repairs follow established procedures
  • Assign, review, and guide inspectors responsible for bonded road assessments and construction activities
  • Examine routes to identify damage, needed repairs, and compliance with bonded road requirements
