Postdoctoral Researcher

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Portal•Birmingham, AL

About The Position

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in a University of Alabama at Birmingham laboratory developing novel immunotherapeutic strategies for malignant brain tumors. The research focuses on understanding tumor-immune interactions and developing approaches to overcome immunosuppression in the brain tumor microenvironment. Projects combine mechanistic studies with preclinical evaluation of therapeutic strategies, with the goal of translating laboratory discoveries into more effective treatments for patients with brain tumors. The postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to develop independent research projects, present findings at national and international scientific meetings, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and receive mentoring toward an independent research career. Experience in all listed research areas is not required; candidates with strong training in a related field who are interested in transitioning into brain tumor immunology are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, immunology, molecular biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in cancer immunology and developing new therapeutic approaches for brain tumors.
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental biomedical research.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Strong scientific communication and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of scientific productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cancer immunology or tumor microenvironment research.
  • Experience with flow cytometry and immune-cell profiling.
  • Experience with in vivo tumor models.
  • Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Experience developing or evaluating immunotherapeutic agents.
  • Experience in brain tumor research.
  • Experience analyzing patient-derived samples or conducting translational cancer research.
