About The Position

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research in computational fluid dynamics and turbulence. The role involves high-fidelity simulations of wall-bounded flows with pressure gradients, separation, relaminarization, and wake dynamics; development of advanced computational tools and analysis methods; and collaboration with a multidisciplinary, multi-university research team. Research activities will support development of physics-based and data-driven models for complex flow phenomena. The position is based on the Main Campus in College Station, Texas. The appointee will also prepare technical reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications and assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree.
  • Strong background in fluid dynamics, turbulence, CFD, and scientific computing.
  • Experience with high-fidelity simulation methods such as DNS and/or spectral or high-order numerical methods.
  • Experience using high-performance computing systems.
  • Experience with Lagrangian particle tracking and Eulerian-Lagrangian data analysis.
  • Experience with wall-bounded turbulence, pressure-gradient flows, flow separation, or wake dynamics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with reduced-order modeling, surrogate modeling, or physics-informed machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in fluid dynamics, turbulence, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Develop and perform high-fidelity simulations of boundary layers, separated flows, wakes, and airfoils.
  • Develop and validate computational methods, including particle-tracking and flow-analysis tools.
  • Use high-performance computing resources for large-scale simulations and data analysis.
  • Analyze simulation data to improve understanding of turbulence, flow separation, relaminarization, and wake behavior.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, and external research partners.
  • Contribute to data-driven modeling, validation studies, and related research activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Benefits

  • Competitive medical insurance and prescription coverage.
  • Options for vision, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Defined benefit retirement plan with the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), with an 8.25% employer contribution.
  • Additional voluntary retirement programs: tax-deferred account 403(b) and deferred compensation program 457(b).
  • Flexible spending account options for medical and childcare expenses.
  • Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Free access to LinkedIn Learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Tuition assistance and educational release time.
  • Access to Engineer Your Wellness health and fitness programs.
