About The Position

The Borland Lab in the Department of Biobehavioral Health at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar. The research involves investigating the neural mechanisms regulating reward for social interactions in a laboratory rodent model. This is a term position with a potential for renewal based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. The expected duration of this appointment is one year with potential for renewal based on fit and funding availability.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field.
  • Due to data access restrictions, this position is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals, but all applicants must have resided in the U.S. for three of the past five years (36 of the past 60 months).

Responsibilities

  • Performing research experiments (e.g. social behavior testing with adult Syrian hamsters, brain tissue collection, histology, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, Western blots, stereotaxic surgery, AAV delivery, fiber photometry and optogenetics).
  • Laboratory management, including IACUC, IBC and DEA record keeping/inspections.
  • Statistical analysis
  • Primary drafting of peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Presentation at national and international conferences
  • Mentorship of undergraduate and doctoral students
