The Morgridge Institute for Research, in affiliation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Cantor lab. This position is ideal for an individual interested in exploring uncharted scientific territory to discover tomorrow’s cures, with a focus on human cell-environment interactions. The lab utilizes approaches at the interface of basic biology and engineering, integrating tool development with biochemistry, systems biology, functional genomics, and chemical genetics. The primary goal is to understand the role of environmental factors in human cell physiology and drug sensitivity, particularly in blood cancers and normal immune cells. The successful candidate will play an integral role in establishing a new gene essentiality profiling platform using CRISPR/Cas9 screening and a novel bioreactor-based platform to identify genetic dependencies in cancer cells under controlled conditions. The candidate will also have opportunities to pursue additional projects that support their scientific and professional development. The lab is jointly affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry at UW-Madison and the Morgridge Institute for Research, with additional affiliations with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the UW Carbone Cancer Center, and the Wisconsin Blood Cancer Research Institute. This role offers immersion in a rich scientific community, development of expertise in advanced in vitro modeling and cutting-edge technologies (metabolomics, CRISPR screens, bioreactor-based cell culture), and a supportive, collaborative environment with state-of-the-art tools and core facilities.
