About The Position

The University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss, is a leading public research institution dedicated to fostering an inclusive community where students, faculty, and staff can thrive. This role involves conducting research and developing advanced numerical models for analyzing watershed hydrology, surface water systems, flooding, and water quality. The successful candidate will also contribute to the creation of computational tools and decision-support systems for various water resource management applications. The position is funded by external research grants, and continued employment is dependent on performance and funding availability.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Earth Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • PhD degree must be already received or about to be received at the end of the current semester.
  • Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
  • Experience in model calibration and validation using field and observational data.
  • Experience in scientific programming.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CCHE numerical models.
  • Experience in laboratory or field research.
  • Experience in scientific software or computational tool development.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and develop advanced numerical models to analyze watershed hydrology, surface water systems, flooding, and water quality.
  • Develop, implement, calibrate, verify, and validate hydrologic and hydraulic models.
  • Simulate watershed processes such as rainfall-runoff, streamflow routing, flood inundation, sediment transport, and pollutant fate and transport.
  • Evaluate the impacts of land use change, climate variability, and extreme weather events on water resources.
