Postdoctoral Research Associate, Cellular and Molecular Medicine
About The Position
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Hamilton Laboratory within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona. The environment features a world-class group of investigators with vast expertise in cardiovascular and skeletal muscle science. The laboratory is focused broadly on calcium signaling and cardiovascular disease, with the overarching goal of uncovering new molecular mechanisms that can be tractable therapeutic targets to improve heart health. The lab utilizes multiple techniques to study basic molecular mechanisms of disease from molecules all the way through to organism. This includes molecular biology, biochemistry, primary rodent cell culture, high-resolution confocal microscopy, and in vivo arrhythmia studies. Visa sponsorship is available for this position.
Requirements
- PhD in a related field, such as biophysics, physiology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology.
- Ability to work semi-independently on research projects within an area of specialization.
- Thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and the objectives.
- Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection and analysis.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to present research finding on a regular basis to peers within the center and at national and international meetings.
Nice To Haves
- At least one first-author publication.
- Experience in single channel/patch clamp electrophysiology, cardiac or skeletal muscle physiology, iPSC technology, calcium signaling, and rodent models of disease.
- 0-2 years postdoctoral experience preferred, although more experienced candidates with desired expertise will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Lead a research project in close collaboration with the PI and other lab members.
- Innovate new areas of experimental inquiry.
- Advance technical aspects of experimental approaches and mechanistic understanding of biological problems.
- Mentor junior lab members and contribute to a productive scientific environment.
- Maintain detailed records and disseminate research findings in meetings and as manuscripts in scientific journals.
- Apply for independent funding and contribute to grant proposals submitted by the PI.
- There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
