The RNA Division of New England Biolabs’ Research Department seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to study transcription in bacteriophages and other mobile genetic elements (MGEs). The research will use computational and experimental approaches to discover MGE factors that modulate RNA polymerase (RNAP) activity, supported by NEB’s research resources and expertise. The position offers a collaborative, intellectually open environment in which clear communication and publication of results are expected. The fellow will investigate sequence databases to develop models for MGE transcriptional regulation, test those models using next-generation DNA synthesis and high-throughput experiments, and conduct detailed mechanistic studies. The fellow will present findings to internal and external audiences and work with a team supporting the supervision of graduate and undergraduate interns. NEB describes the fellowship as providing broad, hands-on scientific training in an industry setting, opportunities to publish in peer-reviewed journals and participate in national and international conferences, and exposure to how scientific discovery is translated into applied research in nucleic acid synthesis. The estimated base salary is $74,000; salary decisions depend on factors including qualifications, job location, internal equity, and market data alignment.
