About The Position

A postdoctoral research associate is sought for work in Dr. Xiaojun Yu’s laboratory at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. The position supports a funded grant focused on developing tissue engineering scaffolds for nerve regeneration. The work includes producing and functionalizing scaffolds, characterizing materials, establishing in vitro cell culture models, and analyzing biomaterial interactions with nerve tissue using surgical, histological, and imaging techniques. The fellow will also collaborate with colleagues on research projects and help disseminate findings through national meetings and journal publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science, Biological Sciences, or an appropriate discipline.
• Background in biomaterial development, characterization, and/or cell culture, and/or exposure to animal models of nerve injury.

Responsibilities

• Develop techniques to produce tissue engineering scaffolds using electrospinning and 3D printing for placement in appropriate animal models of nerve injury.
• Functionalize scaffolds with decellularized extracellular matrices, small molecules, and growth factors to promote nerve regeneration.
• Develop techniques to characterize tissue engineering scaffolds.
• Develop appropriate in vitro cell culture models to assess cellular responses to materials.
• Learn and develop surgical, histology, and imaging techniques for analyzing biomaterial interactions with nerve tissue.
• Work with colleagues at Stevens Institute of Technology to develop collaborative projects of interest to the applicant.
• Prepare documents to disseminate research findings at national meetings and/or in research journal publications.
