The RNA Division of New England Biolabs’ Research Department invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship focused on transcription of bacteriophages and other mobile genetic elements (MGEs). The fellow will use computational and experimental approaches to discover MGE factors that modulate RNA polymerase activity. The work is supported by NEB’s research resources and expertise, in a collaborative and intellectually open environment where clear communication and publication of results are expected. The fellow will investigate sequence databases to develop models for transcriptional regulation in MGEs, use next-generation DNA synthesis and high-throughput experiments to test those models, and conduct detailed mechanistic studies. The role also includes presenting results and working with a team to support supervision of graduate and undergraduate interns. The position offers hands-on scientific training in an industry setting, opportunities to publish in peer-reviewed journals and participate in national and international conferences, and exposure to how scientific discovery is translated into applied research in nucleic acid synthesis.
