About The Position

The Sodora Laboratory at Seattle Children’s Research Institute is focused on understanding how inflammatory events associated with viral infections lead to severe disease outcomes. Their primary research area is HIV infection, utilizing the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) animal model to investigate host-pathogen interactions. A fully supported Postdoctoral position is available for a joint NIH-funded project evaluating an anti-inflammatory immunotherapy in the context of SIV infection and antiretroviral treatment.

Requirements

Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program.
Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area.

Nice To Haves

Research experience in immunology, infectious disease, or bioinformatics.
Experience with flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, or immunofluorescence microscopy.
Experience analyzing large data sets, such as single cell transcriptomics.
Ability to design experiments, analyze data critically, and communicate findings clearly.
PhD in immunology, microbiology, cell biology, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

Oversee, design and perform experiments investigating the role of an anti-inflammatory immunotherapy on disease course during SIV-infection and antiretroviral therapy.
Analyze immune cell populations from liver, gut and lymphoid tissues using multiparameter flow cytometry.
Analyze immune changes within tissues utilizing immunofluorescence antibody detection and confocal microscopy.
Analyze data that will be utilized in presentations, manuscripts, and research proposals.
Participate in the mentoring of undergraduate students, graduate students, and research technicians.
No direct interaction with animals is required.
