About The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow continues scholarly activity and research after earning a Ph.D. or other doctoral degree, under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor. This position supports the Alabama Water Institute at the University of Alabama and its Critical Response and Information Management System for Operational Needs (CRIMSON) initiative. The initiative is developing an online portal to help users in Alabama reduce risks from water hazards, including floods, drought, and water quality degradation. The Fellow supports development of the portal and multiple dashboards, and develops data, information resources, and tools to mitigate flood risk from river flooding, coastal flooding, dam breaks, and flash flooding.

The initial appointment is for one year. Renewal is contingent on demonstrated research productivity and available funding, for up to three years.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in hydrology, civil engineering, computer science, geoscience, or a closely related field.
• Must have completed the Ph.D. or complete it by the start of employment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with academics, scientists, practitioners, and students.
• Strong interest in or existing skills in developing web portals, models, data, information resources, and tools for water risk management.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following: hydrologic modeling, flood modeling, dam safety, or web application development.
