Postdoctoral Fellow (Multiple Openings)
About The Position
The Relativistic Nuclear Collisions Program (RNC) of the Nuclear Science Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is hiring one or more postdoctoral fellows. RNC scientists contribute to ALICE at the LHC, STAR and sPHENIX at RHIC, and Jefferson Lab. The group also contributes to the ePIC experiment at EIC and leads design of the ePIC Silicon Vertex Tracker. The fellow will contribute to one or more RNC research areas, including ePIC Silicon Vertex Tracker software, simulation, or hardware development; ALICE or sPHENIX data analysis; AI/ML research supporting RNC Nuclear Physics priorities; or other RNC experimental research activities. The role also includes publishing papers or reports in refereed journals. This is a full-time, two-year postdoctoral appointment, with possible renewal depending on satisfactory job performance, continued funding, and operational needs. Applicants must have less than three years of paid postdoctoral experience. The position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes. Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. The role is subject to a background check, and the finalist must meet the stated misconduct disclosure requirement.
Requirements
- Have a recent Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or high-energy physics, or a closely related field, by the time the position starts.
- Have experience with modern data analysis, simulation, and computing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral dissemination of scientific results.
- Be able to travel to experimental sites, collaboration meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Have less than three years of paid postdoctoral experience.

- Ability to advise and coach student assistants in research.
