The integrative Protein Generation and Protein Design groups within Discovery Protein Science are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to develop impactful platforms toward advancing new therapeutic hypotheses. In this vital role, you will apply interdisciplinary approaches to develop methodologies for autoantigen profiling, with implications for target identification and biomarker discovery. This is a 4-year fellowship within Amgen’s Research & Development Postdoc Program, which is dedicated to training the next generation of biomedical scientists. This is an onsite laboratory position at our South San Francisco site. To support your research, you will have access to state-of-the art molecular biology, protein design, protein expression, protein biochemistry, and flow cytometry capabilities.

Requirements

  • PhD at the time of appointment in molecular biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, or related life sciences disciplines

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstration of independent design, execution, and interpretation of experiments and results, as exemplified by a solid publication record with first-author publication(s)
  • Proven experience in sequence and structure-based construct design to improve protein expression and high-efficiency cloning methods
  • Experience with protein library construction, mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and NGS analysis workflows is a plus
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills
  • Passion to learn and work collaboratively within a large team of scientists with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Construct and validate protein libraries for autoantigen profiling
  • Apply generated libraries to profile the binding of complex mixtures of antibodies
  • Interact and collaborate with scientists cross-functionally, gaining broad exposure to the process of drug discovery
  • Make novel discoveries that contribute to the broader field, disseminating scientific contributions through impactful publications and conference presentations
