The Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a post-doctoral research position under the supervision of Dr. Chris Smith Home | Chris Smith . The lab— in the Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior section—investigates machine learning approaches for spatial population genetics. Our research integrates custom neural architecture design, simulations, and publicly available genomic datasets to develop new inference methods.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or related discipline).
  • Experience with machine learning approaches for spatial population genetics.
  • Proficiency in integrating custom neural architecture design, simulations, and publicly available genomic datasets.
  • Ability to develop new inference methods.
  • Strong research skills and a publication record commensurate with postdoctoral experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with deep learning models for genomics.
  • Experience with spatial simulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research related to creating or testing deep learning models for genomics.
  • Explore new techniques related to spatial simulations.
  • Engage in other research topics as discussed with the Principal Investigator (PI).
