In this vital role you will be responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing routes to small molecule and hybrid drugs in Amgen’s pipeline. This 2-year fellowship will be focused on the development of AI/ML-based tools for the discovery and engineering of biocatalysts within DS manufacturing routes. Seeking start date Q4 of 2026 or Q1 of 2027 Interact and collaborate with scientists across various Amgen functions Apply cutting edge protein design tools to biocatalyst design Develop and train models for (1) enzyme discovery from metagenomic databases and (2) active learning through enzyme evolution campaigns Publish application of developed models on model systems

Requirements

  • PhD at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstration of independent design, execution, and interpretation of experiments and results, as exemplified by a solid publication record with first-author publication(s)
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Experience with enzyme design and computation prediction for biocatalysis
  • Experience with protein language models, structure-based protein design (e.g. proteinMPNN), or other recent developments in ML for protein design
  • Experience with collaborative deep learning workflows, including developing code using PyTorch and managing version control and code reviews via Git
  • PhD in computational biology, computational chemistry, machine learning, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Developing and optimizing manufacturing routes to small molecule and hybrid drugs in Amgen’s pipeline.
