Post Doctoral.Post Doctoral.Associate

University of Pittsburgh•Pittsburgh, PA

About The Position

The Wohlever Lab is hiring a postdoctoral fellow to lead cell culture-based research investigating how cells decide whether to protect or destroy disease-linked proteins. Supported by a newly awarded NIH R01 grant, the research will study how Ubiquilins regulate the stability of disease-linked proteins through biomolecular condensate formation. The postdoctoral scholar will lead cell biology and biochemistry experiments to establish the mechanistic link between condensate formation and how Ubiquilins chaperone and triage substrates. The work relates to biomolecular condensates, protein quality control, and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture.
  • Strong interest in condensate biology and proteostasis.
  • Collaborative and learning mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cell culture-based research on how cells protect or destroy disease-linked proteins.
  • Lead cell biology and biochemistry experiments examining how Ubiquilins regulate disease-linked protein stability through biomolecular condensate formation.
  • Establish the mechanistic link between condensate formation and how Ubiquilins chaperone and triage substrates.

Benefits

  • Mentorship focused on career development.
  • Collaborative and collegial research environment with stable funding.
  • Rigorous and supportive training in dissecting proteostasis mechanisms at molecular and cellular levels.
  • Access to University of Pittsburgh core facilities and proteostasis and condensate research communities.
