The Hwang laboratory at the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to investigate host genetic factors involved in human papillomavirus (HPV)-driven cellular immortalization and transformation. The project focuses on understanding and ultimately inhibiting HPV-driven carcinogenesis, whose key drivers are the HPV E6 and E7 oncoproteins. Following genome-scale CRISPRi and CRISPRa screens in primary human cells, the work is advancing to validation and mechanistic characterization of screen hits. The successful candidate will lead hit validation and downstream mechanistic studies, complete ongoing sub-pool screens, and drive resulting manuscripts, with opportunities to develop independent follow-up directions. The position calls for effective collaboration across multiple institutions, strong communication, and a commitment to basic and translational research. Training and expertise in virology and functional genomics are essential; the role is particularly suited to researchers interested in host-pathogen interactions and virus-induced cancers.
