Postdoctoral Research Associate - Gottschalk lab

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital•Memphis, TN
•Onsite

About The Position

A fully supported postdoctoral fellowship in the Gottschalk Laboratory, available with Dr. Gottschalk. The fellow will join a collaborative research group that values respect, collaboration, and the professional growth of its lab members. The research project focuses on developing T-cell-based therapies for pediatric solid and brain tumors. Studies use genetic engineering to make immune cells cancer-specific and improve their effector function. Genetically modified immune cells will be studied in preclinical models, with emphasis on their interactions with tumor cells, the tumor microenvironment, and resident immune cells. The ultimate goal is to translate these approaches into early-phase clinical testing.

Requirements

  • Strong publication record.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, immunology, or a related area.
  • Strong background in immunology and cell biology, with an emphasis on cellular immunology and genetic manipulation of mammalian cells.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience generating and evaluating human or murine immune cells.
  • Experience with gene editing.
  • Experience with single-cell transcriptomics.
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
  • Experience with murine solid tumor models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop immune-based therapies, particularly T-cell-based therapies for pediatric solid and brain tumors.
  • Use genetic engineering approaches to make immune cells cancer-specific and improve their effector function.
  • Study genetically modified immune cells in preclinical models.
  • Investigate interactions between adoptively transferred immune cells, tumor cells, the tumor microenvironment, and resident immune cells.
  • Support research aimed at translating these approaches into early-phase clinical testing.
