About The Position
The Adaikpoh Laboratory at the University of Illinois Chicago’s Retzky College of Pharmacy studies ecological relationships between plants and bacteria to identify new antimicrobial natural products. The Postdoc Research Associate will design and conduct research and analyze results with mentor Dr. Barbara I. Adaikpoh. Research may involve bacterial genome analysis, transcriptomic studies, gene deletion, heterologous expression of bacterial gene clusters, metabolite analyses, and antibacterial and antifungal analysis. The role also includes mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and collaborating with researchers at UIC and other institutions.
Requirements
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Pharmacognosy, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Publication record in microbial natural products research or a related field.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience with gene deletion, heterologous gene cluster expression, transcriptomics, and bacterial genome mining for natural product discovery.
- Previous experience with HPLC, mass spectrometry, and analytical techniques for metabolite isolation and elucidation.
- Technical expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, and/or genomics and transcriptomics as applied to natural products research.
Responsibilities
- Keep accurate experimental records suitable for manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Present research results at scientific meetings.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings, Journal Clubs, and Department seminars.
- Design and conduct research and analyze results with mentor Dr. Barbara I. Adaikpoh.
- Conduct research activities that may include bacterial genome analysis, transcriptomic studies, gene deletion, heterologous expression of bacterial gene clusters, metabolite analyses, and antibacterial and antifungal analysis.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Collaborate with laboratories at UIC and other institutions.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
