About The Position

Provide on-site heat treatment services for weld preparation and post-weld heat treatment. The role coordinates and supports preheat and post-weld heat treatment activities, helps develop treatment plans, operates heat-treating equipment, monitors treatment results, troubleshoots issues, and maintains equipment and documentation. The employee may also assist in training and supervising Heat Treat Jr. Techs.

Requirements

• May require a high school diploma or equivalent, with prior experience in the field or a related area.
• Must possess working knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management and supervision.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
• Must have all required tools.
• Must be able to meet all physical requirements.
• Must be able to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces, which may exceed 200 feet.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by workload.
• Must observe and comply with all safety and project rules.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preheat and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) activities and provide required documentation.
• Assist in developing preheat and PWHT plans for projects.
• Communicate safety issues and comply with safety and project rules.
• Attach heaters to piping; operate thermocouples; color-code and connect conductors.
• Place thermocouples to provide correct heater-zone control for preheat and PWHT.
• Apply gradient insulation rules and determine the required amount of insulation.
• Connect heaters and thermocouples to heat-treating consoles.
• Set up and operate heat-treating consoles, programmers, controllers, and recorders.
• Read recorder strip charts to determine temperatures, soak time, and rise and fall rates.
• Troubleshoot preheat and PWHT operations and document work performed.
• Perform end-of-shift walk-downs of preheat and PWHT operations.
• Maintain preheat and PWHT equipment and report calibration and repair needs.
• May assist in training and supervising Heat Treat Jr. Techs.
• Perform other duties as required.
