About The Position

The Post Doctoral Scholar will work under the direction of Professor Saiful Khondaker at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In partnership with the University of Washington, Professor Khondaker leads the PREM Center for Quantum Materials Innovation and Education Excellence (CQMIEE) at UCF. The group studies exotic electronic and vibrational properties of two-dimensional and quantum materials using Raman spectroscopy, tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS), electron transport, and scanning probe microscopy (SPM). The scholar will lead and contribute to independent and collaborative research involving materials exfoliation and transfer, device fabrication, and investigation of electronic, vibrational, and other exotic properties of 2D and quantum materials. The role includes leading research article writing and publication, presenting results at scientific conferences, collaborating with UCF and CQMIEE researchers, and working with and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The scholar will also help maintain laboratory space and equipment and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health requirements. This is a fixed-term position for up to two years, with an expected salary of $57,000 per year, along with other benefits. The stated work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though the schedule may vary as required.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated skill in at least one of the following areas: fabrication of 2D-material-based nanodevices using exfoliation, transfer, optical lithography, and electron-beam lithography (EBL), along with low-noise electrical transport measurements at room and low temperatures; or investigation of novel physics using Raman spectroscopy, TERS, Conducting AFM, and related SPM techniques.
  • Strong command of electron-beam lithography (EBL) is required for candidates pursuing the nanodevice fabrication area.
  • Strong publication record in high-quality journals, including several first-author papers, demonstrating the ability to report scientific results effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative, hardworking, and self-motivated, with the ability and interest to pursue challenging problems independently and collaboratively with other groups.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to independent and collaborative research projects involving exfoliation and transfer, device fabrication, and investigation of electronic, vibrational, and other exotic properties of 2D and quantum materials.
  • Lead the writing of research articles resulting from the work and publish them in scientific journals.
  • Present research results at scientific conferences.
  • Work with graduate and undergraduate students, provide peer mentoring, and co-lead projects with students.
  • Collaborate with researchers at UCF and CQMIEE.
  • Help maintain laboratory space and equipment.
  • Work safely and independently within a supportive group setting.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health program requirements.
