About The Position

The Post Doctoral Scholar will work under the direction of Professor Saiful Khondaker at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In partnership with the University of Washington, Professor Khondaker leads the PREM Center for Quantum Materials Innovation and Education Excellence (CQMIEE) at UCF. The group investigates exotic electronic and vibrational properties of two-dimensional and quantum materials using Raman spectroscopy, TERS, electron transport, and scanning probe microscopy (SPM) measurements. The scholar will lead and contribute to independent and collaborative research involving synthesis through exfoliation and transfer, device fabrication, and investigation of electronic, vibrational, and other exotic properties of 2D and quantum materials. The scholar will lead the writing and publication of research articles, present research at scientific conferences, collaborate with researchers at UCF and CQMIEE, and work with graduate and undergraduate students through peer mentoring and project co-leadership. Responsibilities also include maintaining laboratory space and equipment, working safely and independently in a supportive group setting, and complying with environmental, safety, and health program requirements. This is a fixed-term appointment for up to two years, with an expected salary of $57,000 per year and other benefits. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the schedule may vary as required. Applications should be submitted as one collated PDF containing a curriculum vitae with publication list, a two-page-limit summary of research accomplishments, and a two-page-limit statement of research interests, by email to Professor Saiful Khondaker.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated skills in one or more of the following areas: fabrication of 2D-material-based nanodevices using exfoliation, transfer, optical lithography, and electrical beam lithography (EBL), with low-noise electrical transport measurements at room and low temperatures; or investigation of novel physics using Raman spectroscopy, TERS, conducting AFM, and related SPM techniques.
  • Strong command of EBL is required for candidates pursuing the nanodevice fabrication area.
  • Strong publication record in high-quality journals, including several first-author papers, demonstrating the ability to report scientific results effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative, hardworking, and self-motivated, with the ability and interest to pursue challenging problems independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities
