Post Doctoral Scholar to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Department of Neurology. The Desplats Lab has an open postdoctoral position with an immediate start. We aim to understand how altered epigenetic mechanisms may contribute to adult neurodegenerative disorders, particularly in association with circadian deregulation. We have a long-standing track record of unraveling disease mechanisms associated with alpha-synuclein propagation (PNAS 2009, 106(31): 13010-5; JBC 2012 287(38): 31691-702), pioneering epigenetic analyses in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases (Epigenetics 2013, 8(10): 1030; Alzheimers Dement. 2017 13(6):689-700; Epigenetics 2019, 14(4):365-382; Alzheimers Dement 2021, 13(1):e12156; doi.org/10.64898/2026.01.26.701799), and breakthrough studies demonstrating that circadian modulation mitigates cognitive decline and pathology in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease (Cell Metabolism 2023, 35(10):1704-21). The project focuses on comprehensive multi-omic analysis to investigate the role of circadian desynchrony as a trigger of accelerated aging and neurodegeneration. This study will involve cellular and mouse models, CRISPR and Cre/flox tools, and transcriptional and epigenetic analyses.
