About The Position

The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to lead the Extension and outreach activities of a USDA Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI)-funded project focused on improving mastitis control, milk quality, and management in organic dairy production systems. The successful candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of veterinarians, Extension specialists, dairy scientists, nutritionists, animal welfare experts, and organic dairy producers to develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming that promotes science-based best management practices for organic dairy farms. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in developing science-based solutions for dairy farmers and professionals, Extension scholarship, and applied research within sustainable and organic livestock production systems.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in animal science, dairy science, cattle veterinary medicine, and/or Extension education.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity through peer-reviewed publications, Extension publications, and/or educational programming for stakeholders related to cattle health and management with demonstrated engagement of agricultural stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Extension program development and delivery (workshops, webinars, educational material on mastitis prevention and milk quality for organic dairy producers: 35%)
  • Development of educational material relevant for organic dairy producers, professionals and allied industry (case studies, videos, fact sheets, Extension publications, and resources: 20%)
  • Project evaluation, data collection, analysis, impact assessment and assistance with USDA-NIFA reporting: 15%
  • Research activities, including data interpretation, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of project findings through scientific publications and presentations: 20%
  • Project coordination, stakeholder communication, and other duties supporting USDA-OREI project objectives: 10%
