About The Position

The experimental nuclear physics group in the Physics Department at The Ohio State University (OSU) invites applications for two open post doctoral scholar positions to work with Professors Daniel Brandenburg and Mike Lisa. The relativistic heavy ion group has a position in the Solenoidal Tracker physics programs at RHIC (STAR) and the Large hadron collider beauty experiment (LHCb) physics program at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This group is actively participating in the design and realization of various hardware projects in support of the LHCb and electron ion proton collider experiment (EPIC) collaborations. The Post Doctoral Scholar leads physics analyses critical to STAR/LHCb physics program and takes initiative in contributing to the design of the EPIC experiment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis.
  • Skill related to the analysis of large-scale datasets (e.g. many Tb)
  • Knowledge of MC generators and detector simulations
  • Strong software skills in e.g. c++ and python for scientific computing

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in global hyperon polarization, correlations and fluctuations, spin-induced phenomena and/or photon mediated processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data with the STAR/LHCb experiments.
  • Contribute to the EIC physics program and the optimization of the EPIC backward HCAL project, set up electronics laboratory equipment for testing and hardware detector research and development and perform tests.
  • Present results for all programs at conferences/workshops and write manuscripts to publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
