About The Position

The postdoctoral fellow will work on a project that intersects the interdisciplinary fields of nanomedicine and oncology with a focus on how nanomaterials can be engineered for drug delivery of clinically relevant small molecules for DNA damage and immune response activation. As a member of the research team, the fellow will actively pursue research under the supervision of the principal investigator while developing expertise for independent work and promote innovation of ideas. Our lab is seeking a talented and motivated fellow who will contribute to our goal of translational research and discovery.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, or relevant area, is required.
  • Must have research experience in nanomaterials and nanoparticle formulations, characterization and imaging, and cell and animal studies, for medical applications.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact with and train graduate (Ph.D. and M.S.) and undergraduate (B.S.) students.
  • The Ph.D. must be conferred before the commencement of employment in the Postdoctoral Scholar position at the University of Central Florida.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis are essential to a successful candidate.
  • Experience in writing proposals and project management experience are pluses.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple senior researchers from different fields.
  • Be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship and work under the supervision of a senior scholar.

Responsibilities

  • Formulation and characterization of biodegradable implants and nanoparticles (thin-film hydration, HPLC, SEM/TEM, DLS/zeta, etc)
  • Conduct cell-based and molecular biology research aimed at understanding the biological response of nanomaterials and tumor/immune cells (western blot, MTS, PCR, confocal microscopy, etc)
  • Conduct in vivo studies to understand the impact of nanoformulated drug delivery platforms on survival, toxicity, biodistribution, immune infiltration (flow cytometry), immunohistochemistry, etc
  • Prepare and publish high-impact scientific manuscripts with opportunities to participate in proposal development and present work at national conferences
  • Develop expertise in desired lab skills/informatics/physics/clinical research. Develop proficiency in necessary research tools and equipment.
  • Supervision and training of graduate (Ph.D. & M.S.) and undergraduate (B.S.) students
  • Build on existing clinical collaborations with domestic and international hospitals and research institutes
