The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) seeks a post-doctoral researcher to work with Dr. Joshua Lothringer and collaborators on observational studies of exoplanet atmospheres. Research will include analyzing and interpreting JWST observations of sub-Neptune and gas giant exoplanets. Some time may be available for independent research or new projects in related areas. The initial appointment is for two years, with a third-year renewal possible subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. The expected start is Summer/Fall 2027, though other dates are negotiable. STScI is located on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus in Baltimore, Maryland, and offers a research environment with scientific programming and learning opportunities related to HST, JWST, and Roman. The successful applicant will benefit from exoplanet collaborations at STScI, JHU, and nearby institutions. STScI offers competitive salaries commensurate with the year of Ph.D., relocation funding, and support for computing and conference travel related to the JWST projects. A postdoctoral mentoring program supports development of academic and professional skills. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Planetary Science, Astronomy, Physics, or a related field by the start of the position. Expertise in transiting exoplanet time-series data analysis and/or atmospheric modeling and retrieval is desirable. The position particularly calls for willingness to take on new projects, learn new skills, and work independently to complete projects.
