About The Position

This position is for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Bhatt Lab at Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute. The research focuses on non-genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of therapy resistance in leukemia, specifically studying how leukemia cells evade treatment through adaptation and persister states. The role is funded by an NCI R37 MERIT Award. The lab is situated within the Winship Cancer Institute and has a joint affiliation with the GT–Emory Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, offering a multidisciplinary environment with expertise in hematology, engineering, and computation.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Fresh PhD grads with no more than 1-2 years of postdoc experience
  • Solid wet-lab chops, and genuinely comfortable with epigenetics (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, chromatin stuff)
  • Not afraid of computational/genomic data — you don't need to be a bioinformatician, but you should be able to dig into sequencing datasets and work with people who are
  • Some evidence you can write and finish projects (papers, preprints, a solid thesis)
  • Someone who's independent but also likes being part of a team
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities

  • Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.
  • Designs and evaluates experiments.
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • May be responsible for operation of specific equipment.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff.
