About The Position

The Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of New Mexico is hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow who is able to work on-site at UNM Main Campus. Applicant will participate in research on nanophotonics, metasurfaces, and light–matter interactions in nanostructured optical systems. The selected applicant will be required to lead UNM’s on-site team in the design, modeling, and analysis of van der Waals nanoantennas, metasurfaces, and exciton–polariton platforms based on layered materials. This requires the ability to perform electromagnetic and optical simulations, analyze dispersion characteristics of photonic and plasmonic modes, and interpret experimental and theoretical results related to multipolar resonances, surface plasmon polaritons, strong light–matter coupling, and the control of light propagation and scattering at the nanoscale. Scientific results will be presented through national presentations, as well as journal publications. Applicant will also be responsible for supervising UNM graduate and undergraduate student researchers.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or a closely related discipline by the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in nanofabrication techniques and cleanroom processing for the development of nanophotonic and plasmonic devices
  • Experience with experimental nanophotonics, optical characterization, spectroscopy, and laser-based measurements
  • Proficiency in scientific computing and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel) for modeling and interpreting experimental results
  • Familiarity with thin-film deposition methods, high-vacuum systems, and nanostructure fabrication processes
  • Knowledge of optical spectroscopy, fluorescence measurements, free-space optics, and angle-resolved characterization techniques
  • Experience with modeling and analysis of photonic, plasmonic, and light–matter interaction phenomena in nanoscale systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead UNM’s on-site team in the design, modeling, and analysis of van der Waals nanoantennas, metasurfaces, and exciton–polariton platforms based on layered materials.
