This role involves acquiring proficiency in 3D electron microscopy (EM) specimen handling and preparation for data acquisition, as well as setting up data acquisition using transmission electron microscope (TEM) and focused ion beam scanning electron microscope (FIB-SEM). The position requires understanding sample behavior during acquisition and identifying sources of errors/noises that affect post-acquisition 3D reconstruction and analysis. The fellow will implement and develop software codes for post-acquisition image stack optimization, distortion corrections, and stack alignment. Additionally, they will implement and develop AI/machine learning workflows for 3D reconstructions, automated image segmentations, and 3D ultrastructural and geometric analyses. The role also includes coordinating and supervising the use of computers in the FIB-SEM lab for 3D image analysis. The fellow will contribute to 3D-EM projects focused on morphometric/geometric analysis of mitochondrial networks, membrane formations, and organelle encounters in various tissue types. Communication of methodological advances at conferences and through peer-reviewed publications, as well as managing data sharing and code availability, are key aspects of this position.
