About The Position

Postdoctoral Fellows support the research mission of the School of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering through the development, execution, and dissemination of scholarly research activities. Working under the guidance of faculty mentors, Postdoctoral Fellows conduct independent and collaborative research, contribute original and creative scholarly work, publish scientific findings, develop research skills, and participate in activities that advance their professional development and career objectives. Appointments are based on departmental needs, available funding, research priorities, and the qualifications and expertise of the selected candidate. Research areas may span the full range of biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, materials science, sustainability, energy, translational research, computational modeling, and other disciplines aligned with the School's mission.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related engineering or scientific discipline. Degree must be completed prior to the start date.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research.
  • Experience designing and executing research studies, experiments, or analytical investigations.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts, technical reports, presentations, or research proposals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, sponsors, and external collaborators.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States by the proposed start date.
  • Ability to work safely in laboratory, field, clinical, manufacturing, computational, or other research environments associated with assigned projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous postdoctoral, industrial, government, clinical, or academic research experience.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or other scholarly products.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary research environments.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Experience preparing grant proposals or supporting externally funded research.
  • Experience collaborating with academic, government, healthcare, industry, or community partners.
  • Experience working in one or more areas aligned with the School's research mission.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects under the guidance of faculty mentors.
  • Design, execute, analyze, and interpret research studies and experiments.
  • Prepare and publish scholarly manuscripts, technical reports, and other research products.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of research proposals and sponsored project applications.
  • Collaborate with faculty investigators, research staff, students, and external partners on research activities.
  • Mentor undergraduate students, graduate students, and other research personnel as appropriate.
  • Present research findings at scientific conferences, professional meetings, seminars, and other scholarly venues.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, university, sponsor, laboratory safety, and research integrity requirements.
  • Participate in professional development activities that support the transition to independent research careers.
  • Contribute to the growth and advancement of the School's research enterprise through collaboration, innovation, and scholarly engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
