About The Position

Jumpstart your professional career in suicide prevention working with national innovators at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School’s Center for Accelerating Practices to End Suicide (CAPES). Fellows will primarily work with Edwin Boudreaux, PhD. Opportunities with other UMass Chan faculty, including Rachel Davis-Martin, PhD, Lourah Kelly, PhD, and Dan Mullin, PsyD, MPH, are also available based on the career aspirations of the fellow. UMass Chan Medical School and its clinical partner, UMass Memorial Health, is a thriving academic health care system located in Worcester MA. The environment provides a highly supportive home for fellows, with opportunities to collaborate with leading researchers and engage in meaningful clinical work.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree is required in psychology, public health, epidemiology, or related fields particularly related to mental health and behavioral health.
  • Strong methodological, statistical, and quantitative experience are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on suicide prevention across a range of settings, including the emergency department, inpatient medical settings, primary care, and outpatient mental health.
  • Develop, study, and integrate cutting-edge e-health and mhealth technologies, with a strong focus on suicide prevention and substance abuse treatment.
  • Work on existing NIH-funded clinical and implementation studies.
  • Assist with grant submissions.
  • Develop an independent line of research.
  • Apply for mentored grants (e.g., F32 or K99 to NIH, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention postdoctoral fellowship or early career awards, or other postdoctoral level awards).
  • Engage in opportunities for publications and presentations.
  • Engage with healthcare systems on improving their suicide care pathways.
  • Provide training and education across a range of settings, including within the medical school, graduate school of nursing, and residency programs both at UMass Chan and with other Universities.
  • Accrue supervised clinical hours to qualify for licensure.
  • Identify intervention approaches they would like to receive training in and further develop those skills in the care of diverse patients.
