Post-Casting Manufacturing Engineer

Doncasters GroupOxford, AL

About The Position

Doncasters has an exciting opportunity for a Post-Casting Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Oxford, AL. The Post-Casting Manufacturing Engineer serves as the primary technical authority and process owner for all post-solidification operations up to final casting drawing conformance. Located on-site at our Oxford, Alabama, aerospace investment casting facility, this role owns the process sequencing, equipment programming, and standard work for clearing raw castings into certified shippable products. The engineer's mandate covers shell knockout, rough machining operations to remove excess process-related metal, chemical core leaching, in-house heat treatment, and precision blending to dimensional compliance. Because we machine to the casting drawing, this role does not encompass final part machining (such as fir-tree root grinding or EDM/laser cooling-hole drilling). The engineer drives post-cast throughput, chemical/thermal process compliance, surface finish and dimensional integrity for advanced turbine blades and vanes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience in a heavy industrial or foundry setting, with specific exposure to chemical leaching, high-pressure water systems, thermal processing, or precision grinding/blending.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical metal removal mechanisms, abrasive media selection, and tool/fixture design.
  • Familiarity with heat treatment fundamentals and pyrometry standards (AMS2750/Nadcap framework) for operating in-house thermal equipment, alongside experience managing technical requirements for outsourced special processes.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial chemical controls, autoclaves, and chemical handling procedures.
  • Ability to read complex casting engineering drawings and interpret structured blue light color-maps to guide blending parameters.
  • Degree in relevant engineering and experience working within a metallurgy environment; ideally within aerospace.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of investment casting technology, processes and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with world class manufacturing process, and methods, Lean, Kaizen, 6s, TMP (talent management program), and other advance manufacturing methodologies, tools and concepts.
