About The Position

The Child Advocacy and Protection Division (CAPD) is seeking a Legal Support Manager (Legal Support Services Supervisor 1). Innovative problem-solvers who are interested in managing and mentoring professional support staff teams will excel as part of our team in this unique opportunity. If selected to join us, you will serve as the Portland Legal Support Manager and will be charged with providing excellent legal support and direction in assistance of division Assistant Attorneys General and legal processes. Additionally, you will become a part of the Northern Region Leadership Team and will play an essential role in the division to provide legal services to the Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division branches served out of the Portland office. This position offers an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule (remote and in office work) in order to promote a work/life balance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience supervising the day-to-day operations of support teams in accordance with appropriate laws/rules, legal concepts, and principals of law.
  • Ability to build good working relationships and communicate with people at all levels.
  • Experience reviewing needs of a team and the ability to manage workloads and provide services.
  • Willingness to provide quality service to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Experience participating in professional development with employees including performance evaluations, ongoing coaching, and potentially disciplinary actions.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact and work with people of various cultural backgrounds.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance, including the ability to work after hours to accommodate project schedules and requirements.
  • Limited travel in state as necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams, and other appropriate technology.
  • Three years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience.
  • OR A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • AND Have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Daily Operations of Legal Support Teams in Support of Attorneys and Legal Processes.
  • Mentor, Develop, Coach, and Provide Direction to Employees.
  • Collaborate with our Northern Region Leadership Team to Develop and Facilitate Goals.
  • Cultivate a Welcoming Atmosphere That Recognizes the Value of Individual and Cultural Differences.
  • Work with Internal and External Partners to Achieve Mutual Successes.
  • State Management Service personnel are responsible for understanding the agency’s affirmative action goals and objectives and to develop and implement plans to meet them.
  • In addition, all managers of the Department must recognize the value of individual and cultural differences, create work environments where individuals’ differences are valued, and consistently treat staff, colleagues, customers and stakeholders/partners with dignity and respect.
