Portfolio Software Engineer

Beacon Holdings•New York, NY

About The Position

Beacon is building technology infrastructure for businesses, organizations, and services in overlooked industries. It acquires, operates, and grows vertical market software companies, investing in their continued growth and supporting them with an AI-native platform. Beacon says it holds its businesses permanently and does not aim to cut, flip, or change them beyond recognition. The Portfolio Software Engineer works alongside the small engineering teams at two or three Beacon-owned companies at a time, contributing directly in their codebases with their engineers. The role brings agentic development practices to those teams, helps make important technical decisions, and aims to leave each team able to work faster and more independently. Work may include helping teams ship features, addressing production incidents and their root causes, reviewing designs, interviewing candidates, and automating manual business processes. The position calls for a technically versatile, self-directed engineer with sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, comfort switching contexts across multiple companies, and daily experience using AI coding tools. Beacon describes its values as humility, honesty, hunger, and horizon, emphasizing learning, trust, high standards, responsibility, and long-term growth.
