About The Position

Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE&I) is seeking a Portfolio Manager to join their Special Projects (Distribution) team. WE&I, an affiliate of Welty Enterprises, specializes in program and project management, transmission line engineering, distribution engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight for projects ranging from 4kV up to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, and operating nationally, WE&I currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S. As a member of the WE&I Management Team, the Portfolio Manager will focus on fostering client relationships, staff engagement, and process improvement, aiming to establish WE&I as the premier customer-centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in their target geographic region. This role can be based out of the Akron, OH office or remotely in Pennsylvania and requires 10-20% travel.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or similar.
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing projects or exceptional, demonstrated experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing people or exceptional, demonstrated experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Effective leadership and organizational skills.
Knowledge of or ability to learn client’s systems, tools, and processes.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree preferred.
Electric utility project management experience preferred.
PMP preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators who manage transmission and distribution projects for clients.
Recruit and retain high-quality talent.
Support the career development of the team, including conducting career conversations.
Assign projects appropriately to the team.
Consult on team projects where expertise and guidance are needed, including attending site visits as necessary.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all client software, tools, and processes utilized by the team.
Provide training to incoming and existing staff.
Foster a Welty virtual environment via Microsoft Teams.
Participate in salary administration for the team.
Establish and be accountable for goals for oneself and the team that align with WE&I’s objectives, including growth goals/targets.
Drive utilization and performance for the team.
Drive the profitability of the team’s projects.
Collaborate and consult with other Portfolio Managers and groups (such as Engineering) to share resources and provide support for client projects.
Provide consultation on specific projects as needed.
Develop processes and solutions with other managers to achieve organizational goals for excellence and client centricity.
Foster and maintain relationships with a designated client, acting as an advocate for WE&I’s services and capabilities.
Drive functional excellence and client satisfaction.
Provide general consultation to the client (project-specific decisions are to be communicated by the assigned Project Manager).
Foster a safety-focused culture and perform safety observations during field visits.
May be assigned as Project Manager for specific projects.
May assist with the pursuit of new business with existing and/or potential clients.
May be assigned specific tasks as needed.
Support the company with strategic initiatives.
