About The Position

Under basic supervision, provides a safe aquatic environment for patrons using municipal swimming pools; monitors the daily maintenance of the swimming facilities and supervises assigned staff; monitors activities in City pool facilities to assure public safety and compliance with state rules and regulations, and City policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor/and or Swim Coach experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid Arizona State Driver's License
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate
  • American Red Cross First Aid certificate
  • American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer certificate
  • Swim Lesson Instructor certificate from a certified establishment (example: American Red Cross, Ellis, Starfish, City of Yuma)

  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages daily operations of a municipal swimming pool; registers participants as needed; supervises, schedules, assigns and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Controls pool operations to assure that safety and water quality rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the facility and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Schedules pool activities such as parties, water athletics, swim lessons, and water safety instruction.
  • Oversees cash transactions; reconciles cash drawers and bookkeeping records, and makes bank deposits, prepares a variety of written reports.
  • Monitors swimming and other pool activities to prevent accidents; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and applies cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid; oversees the application of first aid and CPR in emergency situations.
  • Inspects swimming pool for cleanliness and performs routine maintenance, including tests of water in the pool to determine chemical balance of chlorinators; maintains pool facilities.
  • Resolves routine problems; handles issues, inquiries, and complaints from patrons; writes accident and incident reports.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Yuma and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities and complies with all City policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
