About The Position

Under supervision of a polysomnographic technologist, this role performs quality diagnostic polysomnographic (PSG), as well as titration, multiple sleep latency (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT). The position records and provides relevant and accurate data to physicians for diagnostic use in the treatment of patients with sleep/wake disorders. The trainee will be responsible for performing either Sleep Study Procedures or Neurological Testing for all patient populations. This involves understanding testing equipment, applying principles of anatomy and physiology, monitoring and documenting appropriately in the medical record, and working with all age groups. Other department-specific duties may be required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED plus six months of direct patient care experience or one year of postsecondary education.
• OR Current enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology.

Responsibilities

• Performs quality diagnostic polysomnographic (PSG), as well as titration, multiple sleep latency (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) under supervision.
• Records and provides relevant and accurate data to physicians for diagnostic use in the treatment of patients with sleep/wake disorders.
• Performs Sleep Study Procedures or Neurological Testing for all patient populations under supervision.
• Takes direction to understand testing equipment in detail, including its structure, function, indications for use, physiological effect upon the patient, and basic maintenance/troubleshooting procedures.
• Applies principles of anatomy and physiology, normal and abnormal, related to procedure performed.
• Monitors and documents appropriately in the medical record per facility guidelines.
• Works with all age groups and those with growth and developmental needs of unique client populations.
• Performs other department specific duties as required.
