About The Position

The Reactor Operator receives assignments from Shift Supervisors, Process Engineer and/or Department Manager via notes in the logs, other written correspondence or personally. Work will also be reviewed and approved by this same group. S/he has high standards regarding quality and maximizing productivity. This position requires one to work in a manufacturing facility. There is a moderate level of noise, heat, cold, dust, and dirt. Employee frequently works near moving mechanical equipment and chemicals and will be exposed to varying temperatures.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years’ experience as a reactor or similar manufacturing operator
2 years’ forklift experience with certification
Minimum 18 years of age
Fluent with the English language
Ability to understand and follow procedures/directions both written and verbal
Ability to be available to work overtime as needed
Math skills – Ability to convert lbs., grams, kilos, ounces, liters, etc... utilizing basic math skills
Basic computer user skills
Basic knowledge working with MS Office (Word, Excel, PP, Outlook)
Good interpersonal skills
Organized and high attention to detail
Ability to operate basic hand tools
Reactor or similar manufacturing operator experience – 0 to 2 years
Forklift experience – 0 to 2 years

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical production environment
Prior forklift experience
Independently operates various pieces of process equipment related to the specific job function such as batch tanks, blenders, pumps, compressors, etc. without supervision
Independently cleans processing equipment, including lines, parts and vessels/tanks, etc. without supervision
Independently troubleshoots all process equipment without supervision
Recommends and initiates data gathering techniques to resolve problems or improve effectiveness of operations
Trains other personnel in the department
Demonstrated ability to run an automated process using a distributed control system (DCS)
Minimum 4 years’ experience as a reactor or similar manufacturing operator
Demonstrated mechanical ability
Demonstrated leadership ability
Self-directed and ability to work independently

Responsibilities

Read batch cards and record all information required, both written and electronically within the ERP systems
Measure amounts of products or weights of filled containers to ensure conformance to specifications
Mix ingredients according to specified procedures and formulas
Operate various pieces of process equipment related to the specific job function such as batch tanks, blenders, pumps, compressors, etc.
May operate PLC control systems
Observes production and monitors equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
Routinely works from formulas, charts, tables, and schedules.
Reads gauges and charts and records all data/work in required log(s)
Monitor and control temperatures
Monitor and control rotating equipment
Monitor and control pressures
Measure mass
Monitor and control mass/volumetric flow
Follows Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions
Responsible for maintaining proper records to avoid efficiency losses and cross-contamination of other products
Responds quickly to process upsets to prevent production and quality losses, safety hazards, and OSHA-EPA violations
Completes batch paperwork and maintains accurate inventory through cycle counts and proper electronic and physical transactions
Collects “in-process” samples for quality control testing
Understands how process variables affect product quality; identify and correct situations which may lower product quality
Cleaning of processing equipment, including lines, parts and vessels/tanks, etc.
Operate various pieces of process equipment related to the specific job function such as batch tanks, blenders, pumps, compressors, etc. with minimal to no supervision
Cleaning of processing equipment, including lines, parts and vessels/tanks, etc. with minimal to no supervision
Troubleshoots process equipment with minimal to no supervision
Provides detailed information on problems, observations and action to other technicians, lead technicians, engineers, and the plant manager through written logs, data sheets and /or personal contact.
Safely handle and transfer flammable/combustible materials
Safely handles organic peroxides
Suggests process improvements such as equipment modifications and procedure changes
Adheres to wearing the proper PPE/Safety equipment at all times
Maintains the highest level of housekeeping
Understands and complies with all written safety, health and environmental procedures
Attends all required scheduled Health, Safety and Environmental training sessions
Participates in required Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives and programs
Performs required administrative functions related to Health, Safety and Environmental functions such as completing forms, checklists and log sheets
