About The Position

This is a field position responsible for permitting, inspecting, and maintaining compliance of food service establishments in accordance with the City of Atlanta Grease Ordinance. The role involves inspecting each facility in the designated area to ensure proper operations and maintenance of fats, oil, and grease removal devices and to ensure proper disposal of the contents. This position will require some heavy lifting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in industrial waste inspections, wastewater monitoring, and/or compliance activities.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia Drivers’ License at the time of appointment. License must remain valid while in this classification.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain status as a Code Enforcement Agent, as certified by the Atlanta Police Department.

  • Knowledge of wastewater terminology
  • Skilled in operating a basic computer/laptop
  • Basic software skills
  • Skills in problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or one of the Earth Sciences
  • Five (5) years of experience in industrial waste inspections, wastewater

Responsibilities

  • Inspects each facility in the designated area several times per year to ensure proper design, operations, and maintenance of Fat, Oil, & Grease (FOG) removal devices and to ensure proper disposal of FOG.
  • Locates new facilities in assigned areas; verifies closed facilities on weekly report.
  • Performs QA/QC checks in designated areas to ensure completion of inspections and accurate data entry.
  • Accurately completes and delivers all Food Service permits within 30 days of proof of payment within the group's area.
  • Maintains, tracks, and documents permit reports, weekly reports, and monthly reports.
  • Inputs and updates Food Service Establishments (FSE's) to be invoiced annually for permit fees and reinspection fees into the appropriate database.
  • Eliminates FOG in the City of Atlanta sewer collection system by responding to sewer overflows related to grease within 24 hours and assigns emergency spills within 2 hours in accordance with SOP.
  • Locates, identifies, and inspects FSE's causing problems in assigned area(s).
  • Ensures the environmental code enforcement of the FOG ordinance from field operative perspective, including visits to service locations, off-road easements, and rights-of-way for sanitary sewer spills.
  • Protects the City of Atlanta's domestic sanitary sewer system from the introduction of FOG.
  • Compiles and manages the inventory of equipment and supplies; effectively installs and performs complex site setups and installations for continued flow monitoring and customer service.
  • Provide information and directives concerning the proper installation and maintenance of commercial pretreatment systems.
  • Ensures the environmental code enforcement of the Grease Ordinance from a field operatives’ perspective by issuing citations and being prepared to testify in court.
  • Decisions made in the field are to ensure individual safety and that of the general public. Leadership is provided to staff daily.
  • Responds to inquiries, complaints, and violations promptly.
  • Responds to customer service requests, investigates issues, and prepares written reports.
  • Prioritizes work tasks and routes for efficiency.
  • Evaluates safety issues and ensures compliance with safety procedures.
  • Drives and maintains vehicles, adhering to city vehicle policies and maintaining a valid driver's license.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
