About The Position

UN Women is seeking to recruit an intern to provide support to legislative reviews, literature review, and data monitoring undertaken by the Leadership and Decision-Making Section. This section focuses on women's political participation, including representation in local government, executive positions, electoral information, and participation in political processes like suffrage. The internship aims to increase knowledge of these areas, global data processes related to women's political participation, and exposure to policy work and knowledge product creation within the section.

Requirements

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Political Science, Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, International Relations, Gender Studies or other relevant subjects are required.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); OR Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Support monitoring legislative changes and legislative reviews on government systems, electoral systems and quotas, and local government organizations.
  • Support data compilation on women’s political participation, including by mapping and compiling data produced by Electoral Management Bodies.
  • Undertake reviews of research literature on different areas related to women’s political participation, as needed, including on women’s suffrage.
  • Provide support to other activities in the women’s political participation area, including the organization of meetings on the topic, as needed.
